Celeste Hofland
Hi! My name is Celeste.
I was born in South Africa. I was 16 in 1994 when our family moved to New Zealand. I am a mother of three: two boys and one girl. I had been unemployed for many years, and then through a WINZ career advisor I was referred to Literacy Waitākere. I started the Beginner Computer class in the first term of 2024.
Initially, I was extremely nervous and shy, but the atmosphere and people at Literacy Waitākere are so welcoming, nurturing that I’ve absolutely loved coming to class – from the very first day.
When the digital skills class became available, I immediately jumped at the chance to learn more. Again, I loved the classes and my knowledge just kept growing. One day, Sue asked me if I would be interested in being a support teacher for a Digital Skills class. I was so happy. I couldn’t believe the opportunity I had just been offered, so of course I said yes!
I am now into my second block of Digital Skills, and I love it so much. I also completed the AI training day, have done a few classes with Kara and recently enrolled in the online AI course.
I have met so many different, amazing people at Literacy Waitākere and being able to participate in other people’s learning is very fulfilling. I love every minute of it.
Thanks Literacy Waitākere!
